Kenny Schwartz is a serious player with a passion for teaching the art of music and drums through his unique pedagogy that reflects his enthusiasm and devotion. In his private lessons, Kenny’s approach is one of encouragement, positivity, and patience while putting an em-phasis on making the lessons fun and enjoyable for the student. His very first teacher was Founder of Music School, Inc, Jared Feldman.

Kenny graduated with a B.F.A. in Jazz performance from the prestigious New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. Kenny is also a working hand percussionist trained in both the African and Latin traditions. He has had the privilege to study under some of the most respected and accomplished drummers in the country.

He has participated in the NYSSMA and SCMEA festivals and is experienced in preparing students for these competitions. Kenny has been making music since he got his first drum set. His experience ranges from his high school jazz band, to original rock bands, jazz combos, big bands, musical theatre pits, Brazilian percussion groups, and much more. His versatility has brought him from backyard parties, to gigs Puerto Rico.

- Studied with bassist/composer William Parker, pianist Hal Galper, and guitarist Richard Boukas to fully grasp and eventually master the art of listening and playing with a rhythm section.

- Studied under Nasheet Waits (Jason Moran/Andrew Hill), Alvin Atkinson Jr. (Wynton Marsalis), Joe Chambers (Wayne Shorter), Abdou Mboup (Talking Heads), Adam Deitch (Wyclef Jean/John Scofield), and Bernard “Pretty” Purdie (Steely Dan/Aretha Franklin).
