Nick Gianni is a Saxophonist/Flautist raised in New York on a steady diet of Music. His Grandfather played Tenor Sax with local big bands and made sure Nick had learned the basics of Piano, Flute, and Saxophone at an early age before moving to Guitar and Bass as a teenager. Nick studied Music Theory at SUNY Stony Brook, graduating in ‘92.
Nick began performing at the age of 17 and eventually caught the ear of European radio and film star Ursula, whom he immediately went on tour with. While playing with Ursula, Nick began playing Upright Bass and immersed himself in the downtown jazz scene of the late 1980’s. After backing up numerous saxophone greats, Nick grew tired of the supporting role of Bass and started developing his own sound as a Saxophonist/Flautist – following in his Grandfather’s footsteps.
–Has recorded with Dr John, Marshall Allen, Luther Thomas, Kenny Wollesen, Daniel Carter, Hugh McCracken and Brazilian Girls.
–Toured extensively throughout Europe and Australia performing on festival stages, appearing on Good Morning Australia and MTV Europe.
–Wrote and arranged for Pop singer Jill Sobule’s new album, played on several Live Wired releases as well as On Davis Tzadic release.
–Other recordings range from classical to jazz, hip–hop/R&B, house/electro, and world music.
